Any Monitor with an HDMI socket should work. If it only has a VGA type socket' you'll also need an adaptor.
I would add to what others have said.... I would also consider getting....depending on your budget
1. A Pi Pico W. Go fro the "WH" version if you can. If not; you will need to get a solder on headers.
2. A mixed set of sensors and the like. These can be had for very little money.
3. Electrostatic mat. These are really cheap and very useful. I have one that I use for project work. Not only does it protect the electronics; it also protects the table and makes small components easier to see.
4. Multimeter.
5. A subscription to MagPi.
Sooner or later, they will want to make projects more permanent. So...another thing that might be useful; but perhaps controversial; is a soldering iron with stand and appropriate accessories, including solder-able breadboards. That would need caution, training and supervision it depends on your teen; I used one quite safely as a teen..But there are plenty of adults who would be a fire hazard with one.
I would also buy several MicroSD cards...so that you can have different OS setups available and backups. I would go for 64GB. As Thagrol says...minimum 32...but 64GB are not much more expensive; so I'd go for those. Make sure that you buy quality SD cards from reliable sources. I like Samsung Evo cards; but have also had good experience with Sandisk....Others will have other preferences...
Good luck.
