I just moved from a RPi 4 to a RPi 5 and I'm having a problem with the Wifi connections.
Pi5 is running the latest "Bookworm" version
I actually thought I had a defective Pi5 and ordered a second one. Both exhibit the same poor Wifi performance when compared to the Pi4
The Pi4 and Pi5 are connected to a WifiRanger Wifi router which is about 30' away from the Pi's. There is a wood wall and some wiring in the wall between the Pi's and the router. This has never been an issue for the Pi4
The Pi4 will connect on 2.4 and 5ghz networks and transfers are fast with no issues.
The Pi5 has a very hard time connecting to either network and if it does - network traffic is virtually zero. (maybe can ping, but now web pages load)
Both the Pi4 and Pi5 are in aluminum cases and both have heat sinks and cooling fans. The Pi5 actually has the official Pi5 cooling board.
The network "quality" level shows about 50% on the pi5 on the 2.4ghz network when and if it connects Most of the time, the Pi5 won't even see the 5ghz network. I didn't check on the Pi4 to see if it shows the signal quality information.
When I move the WiFi router 15' closer to the Pi5, it works perfectly and connects to either network.
I have attempted to re-orient the Pi to see if that helps, but it will not. The current location of the Wifi Router is not ideal (this is on a yacht) but is necessary to keep it here in order for the Pi5 to connect to it.
Is this a known issue with the Pi5's? Is there a suggested fix?
