It seems to me that if one only uses the web for the things one should use the web for, so-called "privacy and security" should not matter.
That was my assessment as well. If you are only using it for consuming content the risk should be low.

It also depends what else you have stored on your computer or other devices on your LAN, browsing is a gateway into your whole system.

The risks should be non-existent but they aren't, we see repeated alerts of security holes and there must have been plenty that went by unnoticed.

Slightly off-topic but have you seen the size of cookies these days, I had a number that were approaching 1GB each from legitimate sites. We also have permissive cookies these days which to me should be blocked as third party cookies.
