Weather station • Re: Hardware... and weather station questions

Hi all

A local Rpi Distributor has the normal/standard Weather station kit,

Which comes with the 3 units, speed, direction and rain, each with a RG11 connection, "dumb" question, are these digital or analog devices, should I consider a little bread board with a MCP2008 also...

If I look at their items for sale, they have a HAT, but it only caters for 2 x RG11...

So, what does everyone do, cut wires and soldier directly onto Rpi... thinking RPi 4B 1GB ? would that be enough. With a PoE HAT.

considering I probably want to mount this some distance above the roof... assume a BME280 is not a bad idea, but where to mount it.

If I attach a box onto the pole for the Rpi.... I'm not exactly keen on drilling hole in it for anything other than the single cat5e cable.

I'm guessing a bme280 temp measured in a box like this out on a pole might also be off...
temp and hum would be spot on...

Is there a reason that the entire weather station section seems to be locked...

Does WeatherUnderground still take applications ?

Look at Pimoroni as well, they sell the kit, HATs and now they have moved to the Pi Pico setup.
You only need two RG11 connections.
The Pico would allow lower power usage still,
you could look into using PoE and sending all the signals back via the ethernet setup. Make your own wires so to say...

BUT for now, read about setups here
Traditional Pi (Pi4, Pi Zero etc) setup https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/weather-hat
Newer style RP2040 Pico based board https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/envi ... 6047173715
Plenty to read there about how they work etc.
