I subscribe to the Pensacola New Journal. Chromebooks stopped being able to Sign In to their Web Account nearly a year ago. The PNJ Android App will sign-in fine, and I was pleased to find the Chromium Browser on RP5 originally would.
Aside, I've diddled 3rd Party Cookies, Safe/Extended Safe/etc. Browsing, whatever possibly related Site Settings are adjustable, beating on this to no avail. PNJ support obviously doesn't have a clue. Can you even talk to Google? As I suppose Chrome Browser works OK on Windows Computers, whatever. Various messages will pop up indicating things like Java Script isn't enabled when it is, or security features are enabled (no kidding), etc. Mostly it just sits there and spins returning to where it started.
I also run PI-Hole, but can testify that its Blocking is not the problem here either. As when using Pi-Hole Disabling Blocking is about the first effort
for anything that doesn't work.
OK, so also Chromium wouldn't Sync with a Google Account, or even stay login to Gmail overnight. Chrome Browser it isn't. A User here introduced me to Pi-Apps which includes a Better Chromium (an Extension?) with various individually selectable "enhancements" to Chromium. I applied the Google Account Syncing, tab scrolling, and performance improvements. Which indeed allowed Syncing with my Google Account and apparently keeps an open Gmail tab signed-in for however long. What do you know...
And now that Browser won't sign-in to the PNJ just like the Chromebooks!
I even Uninstalled Better Chromium in an effort to recover the sign-in capability, but that didn't work? Admittedly this was an incomplete attempt as clearing the Cache etc. was not done (but I did re-boot)! Some slight appearance changes making the Better Chromium Browser look more like Chrome than Chromium remained as well.
For the time being at least the Better Chromium is re-installed, with only the Google Syncing and Tab Scrolling enabled. I'm guessing the "performance enhancements" were causing an occasional "Ah-Snap, something went wrong" on the open Gmail tab when several other tabs were open?
