I agree with the above sentiment that the documentation is a little bit proscriptive where it may not need to be.
For my own purposes, I often bring up small clusters of Pis, and it's way faster for experimentation (especially when you're bringing them up in an environment with no router at all!) to just assign static IPs on the nodes themselves.
It's easy enough to do with `nmcli` and `nmtui` (and even to automate with Ansible), and maybe docs could still suggest people use router-based assignments—but not force the issue. Just link out to docs for `nmtui` or something (or better yet, just leave in a few commands to get the job done since that's still a great central resource).
