The card is 64 GB, I bought the card reader at a specialty Rpi store, it should supposedly handle 512 GB. A while ago I managed to copy the system to the recalcitrant card via the card reader using the SD card copier app - it initially rebelled, I had to run it several times - apparently it managed to create a bootfs sector first, then the card was already connected and now it behaves normally.
