That really is bizarre and does indeed sound like some sort of router issue.During the past 48 hours, I saw numerous times where I could not even ping my PC that was acting like the client. When it would finally ping, the PC would be a good client and the messaging would be sent back and forth.
If I had to guess I'd be thinking DHCP and perhaps leases expiring, the router keeping some other record of what it thinks is currently alive and too aggressively dropping items. Things may be being kicked back to life by something which allows the router to associate an IP address with that being alive again, ARP or whatever
Or maybe it's trying to prevent ping attacks, thinks it's helping when in fact it's hindering.
Seems to me you may have a router which is too smart for it's own good, and everyone else's.
Do you have any other router you could connect everything to temporarily and try that - it doesn't actually need to connect to the internet.
