Which USB port was your hub connected to?
Pi Zero series computers have 2 micro USB ports, but only one of them supports data and devices (the other is just for power). If you connected the hub to the power port then your devices won't work. The ports are labelled USB and PWR IN, with the USB data port being the one closest to the HDMI port.
The other possible issue is that newer versions of Raspberry Pi OS no longer have a default username and password and run a set-up wizard at start for you to configure the OS. If you are running headless (no display) then it will just sit there waiting for that, but you won't see it on a headless system. As others have suggested, using Raspberry Pi Imager to write the OS will allow you to pre-configure many options, including the username and password (which will allow you to boot and connect to a headless system).
Also note that the Pi Zero computers are very slow to boot the first time, so don't be too impatient on that first boot and allow the system time to complete the initial boot sequence.
