Troubleshooting • Re: 3B hardware issue, not booting

EDIT: What are you using for a power supply? The 3B needs more power than the old models (5V 2.5A).

Sounds like your micro SD card slot may be faulty.

Check it carefully and look for any signs of damage (anything that doesn't look right).

Also check the rest of the board for damaged or missing components. This sort of thing is often caused by one of the small SMD components getting damaged or knocked off.

If all looks okay, try placing a piece of paper on top of your SD card before inserting it (on the side facing away from the connectors, to act as a shim to press the card more firmly against the connectors).

To enable a 3B to boot from USB, re-flash your card with Raspberry Pi OS Lite and add program_usb_boot_mode=1 to config.txt and boot that card once in the system to permanently enable USB booting (will not affect SD card booting).

Of course, this assumes you can get that card to boot at least once. If so, then you can write the OS to a USB flash drive and use that to boot and run the system.
