I've run two kingston A400 SSDs without external power on a 4B but note that not all SSDs are as low in power.

I've never found the need to put ferrite clamps at both ends of the cable, it depends how weak the signal is you are trying to work with. I don't use wireless much, these days the ferrite clamps are mostly in case I accidentally put my mobile phone down near the USB3 leads. I used to run three Pi4's with four SSDs about two feet away from my main wireless router which is why I started using ferrite clamps.

The Asmedia chipset usb-sata adapters should work, adverts stating UAS/UASP mean nothing because even the worst Jmicron chipsets work with PC/Windows computers, Microsoft do some bodge code to fix/bypass/ignore their inadequacies.
