To add to my previous post. A typical voltage regulator such as R-78B5.0-1.5 will work at up to 1.5 amp at 5 volt out. That might
not be enough for a Pi 4 working hard. I'm using one on my Pi 3. Also a nice compact reed relay in DIP format is a 3563-1231-121. 12volt coil, 0.4 amp contacts and SPST. Both items can be found a Digi-Key:
