Thank you all.

Regarding sdm:
Great, I will read about it this weekend.

Regarding using a .sh script:
Originally that was my plan.

The thing is this:

There are 2 parts that we should look at, in this process:
1) Installing
2) Configuring

Installing your favorite programs can easily be automated.
But Configuring them afterwards, is what I have a doubt with:

Technically, you can do a very simple thing for configuring your programs,
which is to copy over the setting files, from your older RPi image, to the freshly created one.

Of course it will work,
but it has 1 disadvantage:
If the setting file in the latest version of the program is updated with new settings,
your old file will not have them.

So by overriding the new settings file with the older one,
you are copying your settings, but you are also deleting new settings that might have appeared there..

So here comes the part where you have to do manual work,
(Editing each setting file yourself, manually, and copying only the relevant values, to the new Settings file)
multiplied by the number of programs that you use..

Is there maybe a trick here that can reduce the manual work?
