I suspect I know more about the background to this than you do and AFAIK, they are still planned. There are some ducks that need to be arranged in a row. One thing to note, we are making 90k 4GB plus 8GB devices per week and selling all of them, and our engineering people are also running at full tilt.Oh, thanks. To me that explanation sounds very similar to 'never'.
When considering possible 'other stuff' then anything else must be vastly more complicated to get done than putting different batch of RAM chips into existing Pi 5 production line. So not doing that for 5 months since release and still keeping the priority low tells something. Anyway, let's hope CM5 will address that non-desktop/less memory needed segment of Pi5 usage soon. Maybe it is indeed better to use some smaller capacity RAM chip stock for making CM5 than for Pi5.
